Players must learn every facet of the catching position. Receiving, blocking, setup, throwing, and pitch calling. Coach Marconi has coached 9 catchers who have played Professional Baseball and continues to develop catchers of all ages through his knowledge gained as former AAA Catcher and Division 1 College Baseball Coach.
Being a catcher means that you need to be a leader who is willing to work hard. You must condition your arm so that you are able to maintain excellent arm strength when throwing the ball. Blocking, framing and defense skills are learned through our off season drills. Quick feet and great hands are essential when becoming a quality catcher behind the plate. This position is the most demanding role in baseball both physically and mentally. You are the on-field coach and through our training we will condition you to be able to take on this role. You are the one who can calm the pitcher and help keep him focused on the next pitch. We will have a heavy focus on the 3 main parts of catching: Receiving, Throwing and Blocking.
Some Drills and skills we will cover:
Blocking off machine, Recieving off machine, Framing Pitches, Stance work on one knee and with runners on base, advanced throwing mechanics taught nowhere else, bunt plays, pitch outs, receiving Curveballs and 100's off other drills and skills!
